Early in his life, he did so as an adventurer, and played a leading role in several historical events. Later, he trawled the rivers in his famous steamship, _The Civil Servant_ and spent his time writing about the people he encountered on his travels. He is one of the few people alive who the River Controllers seem to avoid confrontation with. ===== Early Life ===== Clemens was born beyond the Great Thicket, amongst the people of the Thicket Kingdom along the far away Huntsman River. A hardy lad of 15, he claims to have taken part in a series of skirmishes between warring families in his home land. The end of this conflict saw Clemens flee his homeland, though the reasons for this have never been entirely clear. He would mount an expedition that would sail the Huntsman River south, into the Silty Wastes and out into the Great Shallow Sea. Hugging the coast, they would skirt the Stoney Ruins along the Bay of Salt and Silt, before finding their way to the swamplands of the Misty Delta. For a time, Clemens and his party would live among the druids and shamans of the swamplands, and learned much of their ways. A man of 22, Clemens arrived at the South Gates and from here his story is more credible. It is unlikely that this was his first visit to the Gates, as the swamp folk are known to travel there for trade on occasion, but he has never spoken of previous treks north. people/adventurer/marcos_clemens.txt Last modified: 2024/11/01 12:40by jcderr
